From the moment you walk into River in the Woods, you’re not just going out to eat—you’re stepping into a place that instantly feels like home. The management and entire team are truly top-notch, creating an atmosphere that’s warm, welcoming, and genuinely special. The food is outstanding across the board. Every main course is thoughtfully prepared, packed with flavor, and clearly made with intention. The desserts, however, are on another level—and the s’mores experience deserves its own spotlight. This wasn’t just dessert; it was an event. Creative, nostalgic, and unbelievably cozy, the s’mores made the whole night feel even more homie. It was so unique and legendary that even Man vs. Food came out and talked about it—and after experiencing it myself, I completely understand why. It’s the kind of dessert people will be talking about long after they leave. And then there are the drinks—hands down some of the best in Boulder. Thoughtfully crafted and perfectly balanced, they round out the experience beautifully. What truly sets River in the Woods apart is the people. The service is genuine, attentive, and full of heart. Shout out to Maddie and Caroline for going above and beyond—she made an already incredible night even better. Five stars without hesitation. If you want the most memorable, creative, and welcoming dining experience in Boulder, River in the Woods is the place. Come hungry, come curious, and be ready to leave already planning your next visit.

We consider this restaurant the “Crown Jewel” of Boulder and the Denver area. In two days, we tried everything on the menu and were consistently impressed by its taste and presentation. The only picture we took was of the deviled eggs. We devoured the food so quickly that pictures became an afterthought. The staff was pleasant, professional, and understood the restaurant’s mission. After 2 days we became friends and it felt like we knew them for 20 years. We truly hope our paths cross again! Hats off to Maddie, Gabby, Rob, and Nos (chef) - with all our adoration, Jennifer, Steve “The Grad,” and Matthew from Chicago!

It’s all about the food. Extremely creative. New and interesting flavors and ingredients. Creativity. Must try Lamb Birria Carrot Pumpkin Cocktail Trout with Cauliflower Gnocchi extraordinaire Many others. Didn’t get a 5 because of deviled eggs which were not fresh. Also, their facility was nice, but could sometimes be cold in the back room. This place is now on our list.

Everything about this experience was perfect including the humble yet charming atmosphere. The chatter of happy families and couples added a lovely warmth. The service and recommendations were perfect. The food was beyond perfect from appetizers and drinks to entree and desserts. The presentation of each dish was colorful, fun, and beautiful. The flavor profiles were creative and astounding.

Cozy spot, nice ambiance, and food was fairly good, especially the steak itself and the pork belly/pastrami dish. Did not really care for the chimichurri or accompanying fries. $48 seems pricey to not have loved every component, but they did a good cook on the meat. The cornbread was rough. 6% kitchen surcharge/high prices in general. Service was very hasty, and I was sent home with a metal ramekin thrown on top of my expensive leftovers.

river and woods has quickly become my new favorite dinner spot in boulder. the menu is so creative and delicious — every dish feels thoughtful and full of flavor. the atmosphere is warm, inviting, and perfectly boulder with its mix of cozy and modern. the staff makes you feel right at home, and it’s the kind of place you want to linger over dinner with friends or a glass of wine. truly a gem that i can’t wait to return to again and again.

We enjoyed the dinner here with our 13-year-old son on a Friday night. We sat in the back patio area which featured live music from a guitar player. We appreciated that the music was a nice volume that did not overwhelm conversation. Food quality and preparation was solid. The service was excellent. Ambience is really nice with the lighting and decor. A really nicely done small restaurant that has good food with a casual vibe.

We ate dinner on New Year’s Eve and were delighted. The ambience in the back tent was just perfect for the holidays without being garish. Service was awesome and so was the food. special holiday options were offered along with the regular menu, which was outstanding. The baked oysters and Japanese milk bread from the holiday menu were so special that we wanted to order more but we were glad that we didn’t because the trout from the regular menu was also worth every mouthful. Don’t miss this very special spot!
